When seniors have exciting things to look forward to, they are more likely to have a positive outlook on life. Summit elder care experts have put together a list of upcoming local events that will give your senior loved one the opportunity to stay active and meet new friends.
1. Cards and Games
The Summit Senior Club meets at the Edison Recreation Center at 100 Morris Avenue every Friday from 10am to noon. During this time, seniors gather around the table to socialize and play exciting games with new friends. Delicious refreshments are also provided. This club for people 55 years and older also meets regularly to participate in other activities, including musical programs and shuffleboard. Your loved one can go to the City of Summit’s website to register.
2. Painting Party
The Pinot’s Palette at 96 Summit Avenue is offering the Catching Snowflake class on December 3rd from 7pm to 9pm. This class will allow your loved one to showcase his or her artistic creativity by changing the scarf pattern and designing a different snowman face. Your loved one can bring a beverage to enjoy during class while he or she creates a hand-painted masterpiece to bring home. This class will give your loved one a chance to mingle with new friends, learn a new hobby, and discover a fun way to relax.
3. Holiday House Tour
Reeves-Reed Arboretum at 165 Hobart Avenue will be hosting a series of events on December 8th. Tours will run from 9:30am to 2:30pm. During this event, your loved one can stroll through elegant Summit homes that have been exquisitely decorated for the holiday season. In between touring, he or she can explore the holiday boutique for some gift shopping. Your loved one can also register for a brunch held at the gorgeous Beacon Hill Club from 11:30am to 1:30pm.
4. Brown Bag Book Club
The Summit Free Public Library at 75 Maple Street will be offering this book event for seniors on December 16th from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. Your loved one needs to bring his or her lunch, but drinks will be provided.
